Learn more about this coffee

Sourced from the Gakundu Coffee Factory, in the heart of Embu County in Kenya, this washed coffee benefits from recognized expertise and an exceptional terroir, at the foot of Mount Kenya, one of the most renowned regions in the world for the quality of its coffees.

The Gakundu washing station belongs to the Gakundu Farmers' Cooperative Society, which brings together more than 1,200 producers committed to sustainable and rigorous production. Located at an altitude of 1,650 m, it benefits from nutrient-rich red volcanic soils, a temperate climate, and two rainy seasons that promote a slow and even ripening of the coffee cherries.

The cultivated varieties are hand-picked at perfect ripeness and then transported to the processing station the same day. The washed processing follows a strict protocol: meticulous sorting, mechanical pulping, controlled fermentation, thorough washing, and sun-drying on raised African beds until ideal humidity is reached. This precise process guarantees a cup of exceptional aromatic purity, typical of the finest Kenyan coffees.

The cooperative also plays a vital role with producers: agricultural training, financial support for education or inputs, good environmental practices and responsible water management.

A coffee that delivers clear cups with bright aromas, typical of the best Kenyan coffees.

Tasting tips

We recommend preparing this coffee using slow methods (filter coffee maker, V60, Origami, etc.) to fully appreciate its brightness. Lovers of juicy and fruity espressos will enjoy its crisp acidity, subtly softened by a pleasant sweetness.
